The Faroese government has taken down surveillance cameras at Skúlaheimið, a student housing complex in Marknagil, following a political inquiry, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

Eight cameras remain at the entrances, but their future use is pending a decision by the Data Protection Authority. The move follows a parliamentary question from MP Bjørg Brynhildardóttur Egholm to Minister Bárður á Lakjuni about the housing facility.

Minister Bárður á Lakjuni confirmed that rent will not increase while the future of Skúlaheimið is under review. Authorities will assess whether the building should continue as student housing or be repurposed, and whether the housing agency Glasir should manage it.

After the facility’s management contract ended on January 1, residents reported communication issues between themselves and Glasir. In response, a cooperative committee was established, including tenant representatives, the student council, and Glasir’s leadership.
