A family in eastern Denmark is still searching for three cows that escaped their enclosure five days ago, using drones and help from local volunteers, DR reports.

The missing cows—a mother named Mette and her two calves, Emilie and Speedy G—broke free last Friday near Tøstrup and Ørbæk on the Djursland peninsula. Despite efforts to locate them, they remain at large.

Owner Kasper Hougaard told DR the timing was unfortunate, as the family had to hold their son’s confirmation over the weekend without the cows. “We just had to let them be cows,” he said.

Search efforts have included a drone with thermal imaging, a local radio appeal, and a Facebook post. On Monday night, the drone operator spotted the cows about 100 metres from their enclosure, but darkness forced the search to halt at 12:30 AM.

Mette has been cautious, fleeing with her calves whenever approached. Authorities have urged the public to keep their distance if they spot the animals.

On Tuesday, around 20 locals joined the search, assisted again by the drone. Hougaard said the cows’ bull returned home shortly after the escape and has been “calling for them,” but to no avail.

The family remains hopeful the cows will be found soon.
