Finland’s electricity consumption rose in March
Finland’s electricity consumption increased by 5.2 percent in March compared to the same period last year, according to a report by Energy Industry Finland.
The country used a total of 8.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity last month, with industry accounting for 3.2 TWh and other consumption making up 5.1 TWh. The rise occurred despite March being warmer than average.
Record-low wholesale electricity prices—averaging €27.79 per megawatt-hour—drove increased usage, particularly among data centers and electric boiler operators. The last time prices were this low was in March 2020.
Wind power also contributed to the surge, generating 3 TWh of electricity in March—the highest monthly output for wind energy in Finland to date.
