Man arrested after firing handgun into air in Helsinki

A man was arrested after firing several shots into the air with a handgun near the intersection of Koskelantie and Käpyläntie in Helsinki, Yle reported. No one was injured.

Helsinki police received several reports of the shooting on Saturday afternoon. Several patrols searched for the man and found him in less than 10 minutes.

Police said they found a handgun in his possession and confirmed that it was a real firearm. The weapon was confiscated.

Police believe the man fired the shots into the air, as reported by members of the public. There is no information that he pointed the weapon at anyone or otherwise threatened anyone.

He is suspected of an aggravated firearms offence, endangerment and possessing an object capable of seriously injuring another person.
