Faroese fishermen’s union rejects port fee proposal in wage talks
The Faroese Fishermen’s Union has criticised special port fees and oil protocols as the main obstacles in wage negotiations with the Shipowners’ Association, union chair Jan Højgaard told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya on Sunday.
Talks broke down after the union dismissed a mediation proposal from the national conciliation service. Højgaard confirmed negotiations had stalled, with no clarity on when they might resume. The union’s board will meet this week to discuss next steps.
The dispute centres on what Højgaard described as unfair port charges and disagreements over fuel cost agreements, which have become key sticking points in the labour conflict.
