Liberal Party veteran open to potential ministerial role
The former leader of Sweden’s Liberal Party (L), Lars Leijonborg, has not ruled out returning to government as a minister, describing the idea as “interesting” in an interview with public broadcaster SVT.
Speaking on SVT’s political programme Politik, politik, politik!, Leijonborg—who previously served as education minister and is now running for parliament again—said he was keeping his options open.
“Now that I’ve jumped back into this, I’ve stopped closing doors,” he told SVT’s political reporters Erik Nilsson and Daniel Ingmo. When asked directly about a ministerial post, he added: “It’s a fairly interesting thought,” though he claimed he had not actively considered the possibility.
The interview comes as the Liberal Party, facing declining support, seeks to reinvent its image ahead of the next election. The full programme is available on SVT Play.
