A live broadcast of Radio Salt on Thursday evening will feature plans for a Viking ship replica in Drelnes, alongside updates on the reopening of a historic local pub, Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The programme, airing at 19:00 from the cultural centre Mentanarhúsið Salt, will include a performance by musician Eyðun Nolsøe and a presentation by Annika Hvanngarð of the Víkingaskip association. Hvanngarð, alongside historian Kári Jespersen, will discuss Viking-era daily life, food culture, and newly researched place names from the period.

Representatives from the Suðuroyar Garðafelag (South Island Horticultural Society) and Suðuroyar Talvfelag (South Island Telecommunications Association) will also outline their activities. The latter, established in 2021, recently expanded to a third division in Faroese telecom competitions.

The Viking ship project, modelled after Norway’s Gokstad ship, will be built near Mentanarhúsið Salt and include a workshop, boathouse, and longhouse. The initiative aims to broaden public engagement with Viking history.

Meanwhile, Pubbin, a pub in Tvøroyri’s former Thomsen store, will reopen in collaboration with local tourism authorities. Ansgar Sørensen, the project lead, will provide details during the broadcast.

The live show, hosted by Annika Bolton Mortensen, Jákup Magnussen, and Gundur Joensen, can be attended in person or streamed online.
