Dagbjört Rúnarsdóttir has been sentenced to ten years in prison for assault in the Bátavog case. She was acquitted of the charge of murder but convicted under Article 218 of the General Penal Code for serious bodily harm. The verdict was delivered in Reykjavik District Court yesterday. Due to the summer recess of district courts, the ruling was not announced in court and has yet to be published online.

The penalty framework in this case allows for a maximum of 16 years in prison. Although acquitted of murder, Dagbjört was found guilty of repeatedly or seriously threatening the life, health, or welfare of her partner, which involved violent acts, threats, and coercion.

According to the court’s assessment of the seriousness of the crime, factors such as substantial bodily harm, the manner of the offense, and any disproportionate power dynamics at play between the victim and perpetrator were considered. The conviction stemmed from incidents that occurred on September 22 and 23, where Dagbjört reportedly subjected a man in his sixties to various forms of violence, potentially torturing him to death and recording the events on her phone.

The court has not provided official details or published any documentation regarding the case as of now, leaving further information about the proceedings and potential appeal options unclarified.
