Wärtsilä Finland appoints Magdalena Granö as new managing director
Wärtsilä has named Magdalena Granö as the new managing director of Wärtsilä Finland Oy, effective May 1, the company announced on Monday. Granö will continue in her current role as head of project deliveries for the firm’s marine business.
Granö, a qualified engineer and Master of Science in Economics, has held various leadership positions in Wärtsilä’s supply chain and customer delivery operations since joining the company in 2013. Prior to Wärtsilä, she worked in procurement and logistics roles at Nokia, IKEA, and Danfoss (formerly Vacon).
The current managing director, Hannu Mäntymaa, will transition to a new position as global head of sales for Wärtsilä’s marine business. Mäntymaa has led Wärtsilä Finland for the past five and a half years while overseeing the marine division’s optimisation services. In his new role, he will report to Roger Holm, head of marine business and member of Wärtsilä’s executive board.
Granö described the company’s current phase as “exciting,” highlighting Wärtsilä’s strong market position and foundation for sustainable growth. Over the past eight years, the company has invested over €400 million in its Vaasa operations, including a €140 million expansion announced in February to increase capacity and strengthen the global supply chain.
“Our focus now is on successfully executing these investments and delivering on our commitments to customers and shareholders,” Granö said.
Mäntymaa reflected on his tenure, calling the past years the most interesting of his Wärtsilä career. “As a company, we have advanced our strategy for the marine and energy sectors’ transition to low-carbon and carbon-free solutions. In Finland, particularly in Vaasa, we have grown significantly, recruiting around 600 employees over the past five years,” he said.
