Almost all trains in Zealand halted after overhead line failure
Nearly all train services across Zealand have been suspended following a failure in the overhead power lines at Copenhagen Central Station, Danish infrastructure operator Banedanmark announced on Tuesday.
The disruption affects all regional, intercity, and international trains, with the exception of Copenhagen’s S-train network and a limited number of services between Roskilde and Kalundborg. Local railway lines operated by Lokaltog A/S remain unaffected, as they are not managed by Banedanmark.
The shutdown follows two separate incidents: an earlier overhead line failure east of Ringsted, which had already suspended all traffic between Ringsted and Køge Nord, and the latest failure at Copenhagen Central Station. Replacement bus services have been introduced between Køge Nord and Ringsted for the remainder of the day.
DSB, Denmark’s national rail operator, confirmed that services on the following routes are currently suspended:
– Copenhagen Central – Helsingør
– Copenhagen Central – Copenhagen Airport
– Køge – Næstved
– Copenhagen – Roskilde – Ringsted
Passengers are advised to expect significantly reduced services, longer travel times, and delays on routes to and from Funen and Jutland. DSB has attempted to arrange replacement buses but warned that capacity will be insufficient to meet demand.
“Train traffic is severely disrupted,” a DSB spokesperson said. “We recommend checking the Rejseplanen [journey planner] and, where possible, travelling by S-train, as those services are operating normally.”
Neither Banedanmark nor DSB could provide an estimate for when normal service would resume. The disruptions are also expected to impact Wednesday’s timetable, though specific changes have yet to be confirmed.
