Socialdemokraterna’s shift toward alignment with Sweden’s centre-right Tidö parties on key policies is complicating a potential post-election government partnership with Miljöpartiet, according to an analysis by public broadcaster SVT.
The strategic realignment has created uncertainty over which policies would prevail if the left-green bloc wins September’s general election. Under co-leader Amanda Lind, Miljöpartiet has sharpened its climate focus, gaining ground in opinion polls—and with it, greater leverage in any future coalition.
Socialdemokraterna now face the challenge of reconciling their recent policy moves with Miljöpartiet’s demands, particularly on climate issues. Lind has previously criticised the party’s approach as “petrol populism,” signalling deep divisions over environmental priorities.
