The Faroese airline Atlantic Airways has warned that ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to fuel shortages and rising airfare prices within three weeks if the critical shipping route remains blocked, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Jóhanna á Bergi, the airline’s managing director, confirmed that suppliers have indicated limited fuel reserves. “We are in ongoing contact with our suppliers, and as the situation stands, we have been informed that fuel stocks are running low,” she told the Faroese national broadcaster.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key transit route for jet fuel imports to Europe. According to a recent report in the Financial Times, cited by ACI Europe—which represents European airports—disruptions in the region threaten supplies. Over 1,000 flight cancellations by SAS since April 1 underscore the growing strain on the aviation sector.

Atlantic Airways is monitoring the situation closely, with á Bergi noting that ticket prices may rise if the blockade persists. The airline has not yet implemented changes but is preparing for potential shortages within weeks unless the strait reopens.
