Swedish government unveils 10-year strategy to combat violence against women
The Swedish government has presented a new national strategy to tackle men’s violence against women, honour-related violence, human trafficking, and exploitation in prostitution, public broadcaster SVT Nyheter reports.
The 10-year plan, announced on Tuesday, aims to create a society free from violence, oppression, and exploitation through strengthened coordination, collaboration, and monitoring. Gender Equality Minister Nina Larsson (Liberal Party) stated that the strategy is built on three core principles: a clear victim perspective, improved cooperation between authorities, and the development of new knowledge and working methods.
The Gender Equality Agency has been tasked with coordinating a national collaboration framework involving 17 government agencies and regional county administrative boards.
“This strategy takes aim at a society free from violence, oppression, and exploitation,” Larsson said during a press conference.
