The Faroese telecommunications regulator has issued a warning about fraudulent SMS messages—known as “smishing”—circulating in the Faroe Islands, claiming to be from the national digital identity system Samleikan.

The messages instruct recipients to click a link and update their personal information, with one example using a Slovenian phone number (+386 31 586 826) and stating: “From 11.04.2026, you can no longer use your account. Please activate the update as soon as possible.”

Talgildu Føroya (the Faroese Telecom Authority) confirms these are scams and urges the public never to click such links or share personal details. “Financial institutions, telecom providers, and police are working together to stop these attacks, but it is crucial that everyone remains vigilant,” the authority stated.

Recipients are advised to delete the messages immediately. Those who have clicked the link or provided information should reset their Samleikan credentials and contact their bank directly.
