Faroese national church holds two key elections
The Faroese national church, Fólkakirkjan, conducted two separate elections last year, Bishop Jógvan Fríðriksson confirmed in an interview with public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
As a public institution, the church operates with elected representatives at multiple levels. Membership stood at 76.1 percent of the Faroese population as of January 1 last year, with congregations electing local church councils nationwide. Higher bodies, including the deanery councils—comprising a dean and four elected members—and the diocesan council, which includes the bishop, a government-appointed official, and one elected member, also involve democratic selection.
Fríðriksson, who chairs the electoral committee, provided details on both votes held in 2025.
