Faroese fishing vessel breaks free in storm
A fishing vessel broke from its moorings in Klaksvík early Monday morning as strong winds battered the Faroe Islands, local broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The vessel, named Chr. í Grótinum, drifted loose at 5 a.m. but was later secured by the patrol vessel Ziska and returned to the harbour. Wind gusts reached up to 53 m/s (190 km/h) on the Dalavegur road toward Viðareiði around 2:30 a.m., according to the Faroese Road Administration.
Police received 21 reports of wind damage overnight and into Monday morning, with the first calls coming in around 1 a.m. Among the incidents were three election posters torn down in Tórshavn and Norðragøta. Authorities had previously urged residents to remove posters before the storm hit.
In Tórshavn, two men were taken into custody early Monday morning, though police did not specify whether the arrests were storm-related.
