Only 62 women are standing as candidates in the Faroe Islands’ upcoming parliamentary election, down from 68 in the previous vote, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The decline comes as the Democratic Party (Demokratia) urges voters to elect at least one woman to break the pattern of low female representation. The party’s call was featured in a segment on the news programme Degin og vikan, with data provided by the election results website valurslit.fo.

Former MP Helena Dam á Neystabø, who served in parliament from 1990 to 2019, also contributed to the discussion during the broadcast.
