Three candidates running for Faroese parliament for the 12th time
Three veteran politicians—Jørgen Niclasen, Jacob Vestergaard, and Bill Justinussen—are all standing as candidates for the Fólkaflokkurin (People’s Party) in the Faroe Islands’ upcoming parliamentary election on 26 March, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
This marks the 12th time each has run in a general election, though it is the first time all three appear on the same party list. According to election results site valurslit.fo, Vestergaard first stood for office 42 years ago in 1984, representing the People’s Party in the Suðuroy constituency.
Niclasen entered politics in 1988, running in the Vága constituency. He has participated in every election since and was first elected to parliament in 1994, having previously served as a substitute member.
Justinussen initially ran in 1988 for the Christian People’s Party (later the Centre Party) before switching allegiances. He has now joined Niclasen and Vestergaard on the People’s Party ticket.
Other long-standing candidates include Jenis av Rana (Centre Party, 11th election), Eyðgunn Samuelsen (Social Democrats, 10th), Sámal Petur í Grund (Self-Government Party, 10th), Høgni Hoydal (Republic, 9th), and Karlot Hergeirsson (Progress, 6th).
