Icelandic public broadcaster director admits media culture issues but avoids core problems
The director of Iceland’s national public broadcaster RÚV has acknowledged shortcomings in workplace culture but stopped short of addressing deeper systemic issues, RÚV.is reports.
In a statement, Margrét Eva Einarsdóttir, RÚV’s director general, described the broadcaster’s internal culture as “fairly good” while conceding that improvements are needed. Her comments follow recent criticism of management practices and employee dissatisfaction within the organisation.
Einarsdóttir’s remarks came during a public discussion on RÚV’s role and operations. While she recognised minor flaws, she did not propose concrete measures to tackle underlying concerns raised by staff and external observers.
RÚV, Iceland’s state-funded broadcaster, has faced scrutiny over transparency and governance in recent years. Critics argue that leadership has been slow to implement reforms despite repeated calls for greater accountability.
