Rakel Heiðmarsdóttir has been appointed dean of the business department at Bifröst University and will also join the university’s executive management, mbl.is reports, citing an announcement.
Heiðmarsdóttir holds a doctorate in counselling psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 2002. She received a Fulbright grant for her studies in the United States and completed a 12-month research internship at the University of California at Berkeley in 2001 and 2002.
She has managed human resources and served on the executive management teams of Norðurál, Blue Lagoon and Garra. She was also deputy managing director of Garra for a period.
Heiðmarsdóttir has taught at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík University and the University of Texas. She joined Bifröst University’s business department as a permanent lecturer in autumn 2024.
She has also delivered courses in workplaces and provided management and human resources consultancy to companies and institutions across Iceland.
“I am delighted to have Rakel take on the permanent position of dean of the business department, a role she assumed temporarily at short notice last spring and has performed excellently,” Bifröst University rector Ólína Kjerúlf Þorvarðardóttir said in the announcement.
“I am confident that her experience and knowledge will continue to benefit her work for the department and the university as a whole, and I welcome her to the role,” she said.
