Faroese self-governance party proposes tax cuts and welfare reforms ahead of election
The Faroese Self-Government Party (Sjálvstýri) has unveiled its election platform, pledging to abolish the corporate tax (fíggjarlóg), reduce income taxes for low- and middle-income earners, and reform housing subsidies to prioritise rent assistance over homeownership support.
Party leader Sámal Petur í Grund presented the platform on Friday, emphasising economic relief for families and expanded social welfare. Key proposals include extended parental leave, higher child benefits, and faster processing of aid for vulnerable children and youth.
The party also aims to boost job creation through tourism development, agricultural support, and expanded educational opportunities. Its longstanding push for gradual Faroese independence remains central to the platform.
The Faroe Islands will hold parliamentary elections later this year.
