Yellow weather warning issued for heavy rain across eastern Norway as flooding risks increase
The Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain across much of Eastern Norway starting Tuesday afternoon, anticipating locally intense downpours. Additionally, warnings for flooding have been issued in northern Innlandet, along with alerts for landslide and mudslide risks. The yellow warning signifies a moderate level of danger.
Meteorologist Per Egil Haga mentioned that certain areas could see rain accumulations of 40-50 mm throughout the afternoon. This weather could disrupt traffic, leading to water accumulation on roads and potential closures, according to local forecasts. Drivers are advised to adjust their travel according to the conditions and to check road updates on 175.no.
Local variations in rainfall intensity are expected, with streams and smaller rivers likely to experience rapid increases in water levels. For safety, residents are urged to steer clear of waterways with high flow levels. Haga noted that a significant rain system had moved in overnight and anticipates the most intense rainfall to occur later in the afternoon, shifting slightly to the east later in the evening.
Consequently, regions such as Valdres and parts of Gudbrandsdalen can expect lighter weather, while the eastern section of the former Hedmark county may still encounter substantial precipitation throughout the day. Oslo and Akershus are also predicted to experience heavy rain.
