Sweltering temperatures hit Finland as rain and thunderstorms approach
The week begins with sweltering weather across Finland, but rain and thunderstorms are approaching from the west. On Monday, temperatures are expected to range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius nationwide, with generally clear skies. However, the western regions may experience isolated local showers, keeping temperatures below the heatwave threshold at around 20-25 degrees, according to meteorologist Laura Tuomola. Recently, Utsjoki has been the warmest municipality in Finland, recording a high of 29.5 degrees on Sunday. It remains to be seen whether the temperature will surpass 30 degrees on Monday.
As for Tuesday, the weather will continue to be sunny and hot, but rain and thunderstorms will become more common compared to Monday. In western Finland, localized heavy rainfall may occur, with some areas receiving over 20 millimeters per hour. Tuomola notes that the air will be particularly humid throughout the early week, making the heat feel oppressive in southern and central Finland, as well as in Inari and Utsjoki. Temperatures on Tuesday are again expected to reach 25 to 30 degrees.
A fire warning has been issued for Inari and Utsjoki on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the weather will be cloudier than on the previous days, though it will still remain hot. A weather front draped over Scandinavia will bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of western Finland. Additionally, a fire warning has been issued for several municipalities in Lapland for Wednesday.
