Court case resumes in Hillerød regarding fatal collision involving two BMWs on Hillerød Motorway
On July 6, a fatal incident occurred on an extension of the Hillerød Motorway, involving two BMW vehicles that alternated overtaking each other while driving between lanes. Surveillance footage from the scene shows these maneuvers. The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
Currently, a court case is underway in Hillerød, where a 24-year-old man faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving. He was driving the black BMW, while his friend, a 33-year-old man in the white BMW, was returning from a nightclub outing in Copenhagen when the incident transpired. The white car collided head-on with another vehicle carrying a couple and their two children, leading to the deaths of the 33-year-old and the couple, while the children sustained life-threatening injuries.
Evidence presented in court revealed that the 33-year-old had a blood alcohol level of 0.41, while the younger man claimed he had consumed no alcohol. The prosecution alleges that both drivers were racing prior to the crash. However, the 24-year-old denied this, asserting he did not overtake the other vehicle, although he acknowledged that it was their cars captured on the surveillance.
Witness accounts indicated reckless speeds, with the prosecution citing that the 24-year-old was driving at least 153 kilometers per hour in an 80-kilometer zone. Moreover, it was noted that the driver of the white BMW was traveling no slower than 158 kilometers per hour at the time of the collision. Following the accident, the 24-year-old expressed feeling shocked and admitted to ongoing psychological support, which impacted his recollection of the events.
