Bus accident involving foreign tourists reported on Fróðárheiði in Snæfellsnes, Iceland
A bus accident occurred today on Fróðárheiði in Snæfellsnes, Iceland, involving a coach carrying around 25 passengers that rolled off the road. Two individuals were airlifted to a hospital in Reykjavik by Iceland’s Coast Guard helicopter.
According to local police, the incident involved a group of foreign tourists. The road conditions at the time were described as icy, and there were strong winds contributing to the situation when the bus veered off course. Emergency responders were stationed to meet the helicopter, which landed south of Fróðárheiði amidst adverse weather conditions.
At least two rescue teams from the Snæfellsnes area were dispatched to assist at the scene. Another bus was sent from Hellissandur to pick up any passengers who were not injured, taking them to a designated emergency response center in Ólafsvík. Four individuals were subsequently transported from Ólafsvík to Akranes for further medical evaluation.
The situation remains under investigation as updates are awaited on the health of those involved in the mishap.
