In Kolding, the Dronning Dorothea Theatre recently organized a clearance event, inviting locals to collect various theater props, set pieces, and costumes from its past productions. With a deadline to empty their storage by the end of the year, theater manager Daniel Petersen emphasized the importance of sustainability in this initiative.

“Rather than throwing these items away, we prefer to give costumes and props a new life,” Petersen explained. The event attracted many eager participants, including Oliver Storm, a volunteer at the local cultural center, Fundament. He had earmarked specific items to aid in building a stage for upcoming projects.

“Stage lights can be quite expensive to purchase new, so when we learned the theatre was giving them away, we had to come and check it out,” said Storm. He arrived early to secure what he needed and noted the high demand for the lights, which were quickly being claimed by attendees.

The storage area opened at noon, and within the first thirty minutes, the turnout exceeded expectations. Petersen reported that around 70 to 80 people had already visited, particularly showing interest in the technical equipment and costumes. As the day progressed, the theatre anticipated clearing out all remaining stage materials by the evening’s end, marking a successful and community-driven effort to repurpose unused theatrical assets.
