Levi Mørk elected new mayor of Vágur following Tuesday’s election
In Vágur, Levi Mørk has been elected as the new mayor, having emerged as the leading candidate during Tuesday’s election, surpassing the incumbent, Bjarni Johansen of list C.
Despite the change in leadership, the composition of the city council remains in the hands of the same parties: lists C and B, which represent the Social Democratic Party and the Union Party, respectively.
It has been reported that an agreement is in place for Marin Gaardlykke to take over as mayor halfway through the electoral term. However, this plan may contradict regulations, as it is generally prohibited to change mayors midway through a term, a situation that could prompt intervention from municipal oversight authorities.
According to local law, a mayor is appointed for the full electoral term. Although a mayor can resign due to illness, they cannot be replaced solely to redistribute power between two political factions.
In the election, Marin Gaardlykke received 44 votes, leading list B, while Levi Mørk topped list C with 131 votes. Together, lists B and C secured five council seats, with two representatives from list B and three from list C.
Additionally, during the election, list E garnered six more votes than list C, resulting in four representatives for list E. Consequently, despite winning the most council seats, list E finds itself in the minority.
