Record crowd turns out for Kjörís ice cream festival

A record crowd attended the Kjörís ice cream festival in Hveragerði on Saturday, mbl.is reported. The festival area quickly became packed despite being significantly expanded from last year, according to a statement from Kjörís.

The exact attendance has not yet been counted, but organisers said it was clear that a record had been set.

Visitors were offered a wide selection of ice cream, ranging from classic flavours to new and unusual combinations. This year’s additions included matcha latte ice cream, hot honey ice cream with pecans, beer ice cream with Smash pieces and pâté ice cream.

The hot honey flavour, a heavily spiced chilli ice cream with honey, appeared to be particularly popular. The pâté ice cream was less well received and is unlikely to go on sale.

The festival is part of Blómstrandi dagar in Hveragerði and also gives Kjörís an opportunity to test new products and collect feedback from consumers. The Sports Elf also attended and entertained the crowd.

Traffic into Hveragerði generally moved well given the scale of the event. A queue temporarily formed down Kambar and up Hellisheiði, but traffic was otherwise moving smoothly, according to the statement.
