Joakim Vigelius seeks Finns Party nomination for mayor of Tampere
Joakim Vigelius, a member of the Finns Party, is seeking his party’s nomination for the mayoral position in Tampere. He confirmed this intention publicly, stating that he has informed the local party chapter of his willingness to take on the role.
Marika Puolimatka, the chair of the Finns Party’s council group in Tampere, mentioned that the party intends to support only one candidate for mayor this time. In contrast, Lassi Kaleva, who ran as a candidate in the last municipal elections and served as the first deputy chair of the council group, has decided not to pursue the position this time. He expressed that while the experience was enriching and educational, he wants to make room for someone else.
Meanwhile, Veikko Vallin, a former member of parliament, has announced plans to relocate to Madeira, and Sakari Puisto, another parliament member, is set to take on the role of Minister of Economic Affairs next year. A decision regarding the Finns Party’s candidate is expected by Friday, coinciding with a visit from Finance Minister Riikka Purra to Tampere.
In terms of competition, the Social Democrats and the Green Party have already disclosed their candidates. The current mayor, Kalervo Kummola, has yet to announce whether he will seek re-election.
