Effo denied permission for wind farm project in Eysturoyn
Effo has been denied permission to establish a wind farm in Eysturoyn.
A disagreement has arisen between the Environmental Agency and Effo regarding the proposed wind turbine project.
Effo initially submitted its application in January. In May, the Environmental Agency indicated that the request for a license to generate 100 megawatts of wind energy would necessitate a public tender process.
In June, the applicant argued that no production or grid licenses were required, as the energy would not be directed into a power grid for consumers. The Environmental Agency disagreed.
In July, the agency announced that it could not grant a license for the planned project, known as Eysturlund. To date, the agency has not received any comments from the applicant concerning this decision.
Final Decision Pending
The Environmental Agency believes the matter is ready for a final decision soon, as communicated to Bárður á Steig Nielsen, a member of the parliament, by the government. He inquired about the issue with the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Finance, Margit Stórá, is responsible for the response.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Nes has approved alterations to its zoning regulations, allowing Effo to proceed with the wind farm project in Eysturoyn.
The Eysturlund project is expected to supply energy to Havsbrún in Fuglafjørður, among other recipients.
