Sami Mäenpää appointed new leader of Kainuu welfare region in Kajaani

Sami Mäenpää has been appointed as the new leader of the Kainuu welfare region. Currently, he serves as the operational director of the Kainuu welfare area. The election took place during a meeting of the regional council at the City Hall in Kajaani on Monday morning. A total of 58 votes were cast, with Mäenpää receiving 39 of them.
In the election, there were 14 candidates who met the eligibility requirements. Seven of these candidates advanced to the interview stage, while four underwent suitability assessments. Following the assessments, Sami Mäenpää moved on to the interview conducted by the regional council. The other candidate interviewed was Katja Virta, the acting director of the Central Ostrobothnia welfare area, who received a total of 19 votes.
The previous head of the Kainuu welfare region, Jukka Lindberg, resigned from his position during the summer amid trust issues.
