Lilja Rafney secures second position for People’s Party in Northwest Constituency

Lilja Rafney Magnúsdóttir, a former member of the Left-Green Movement, has secured the second position on the candidate list for the People’s Party in the Northwest Constituency. Eyjólfur Ármannsson continues to lead the party in this district.

The People’s Party has released its list of candidates, drawing attention for Lilja Rafney’s prominent role. She served in parliament for twelve years from 2009 to 2021 and held positions as an alternate member for both the Left-Green Movement and the People’s Alliance prior. Lilja Rafney previously led the Left-Green Movement but lost a primary election to Bjarni Jónsson, who recently left the party. Following this, Lilja criticized the primary process as neither honest nor democratic. Nevertheless, after careful consideration, she accepted the second position on the ballot and is poised to serve as an alternate member of parliament.

Lilja Rafney parted ways with the Left-Green Movement this summer after the party endorsed a legislative proposal regarding the quota for grayling fish.

Eyjólfur Ármannsson leads the list, with Bragi Þór Thoroddsen, the mayor of Súðavíkurhreppur, in third position. Heiða Rós Eyjólfsdóttir, a dental technician and hairdresser, is in fourth place. Notably, the candidate list features several fishermen, including two ship captains and the chairman of the Skalla small boat association. The submission deadline for candidate lists is approaching at noon.
