Eggert Gunnarsson criticizes Dag B. Eggertsson’s role in Samfylking ahead of Icelandic elections

In a recent Facebook post, Eggert Gunnarsson, father of Dag B. Eggertsson, a former mayor and current candidate for the Samfylking political party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, expressed strong opinions about his son’s positioning in the party. He described Dag as being “lightweight” compared to other party leaders, despite his substantial knowledge, experience, and unique ability to work with people. Gunnarsson’s comments emerged in response to remarks made by Kristrún Frostadóttir, the party chairman, who referred to Dag as a “supporting actor” and not a candidate for ministerial roles, following a conversation with dissatisfied voters.

Eggert questioned who the prominent figures in the party were, listing names such as Frostadóttir, MP Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Ísafjörður’s mayor Anna Lára Jónsdóttir, MP Logi Einarsson, police chief Víðir Reynisson, and national physician Alma Möller. In light of these remarks, Dag stated on a local program that he was taken aback by Fróstadóttir’s comments but considered the matter resolved after their heartfelt discussion. He expressed that it was important to maintain a united front and acknowledged that both he and Kristrún agreed her message was not appropriately conveyed.

The parliamentary elections are set for November 30, 2024, amidst various ongoing discussions regarding party representation and candidate qualifications.
