Bjørt Samuelsen, a candidate for the leadership position in the Tjóðveldi party, emphasized that it is not crucial who nominates you, but rather who votes for you. Following the announcement from Høgni Hoydal on Friday evening that he would step down, the local branches of Tjóðveldi, with the exception of the South Streymoy district, each proposed their candidate to lead the party.
Attempts have been made to reach the chairman of the South Streymoy Tjóðveldi branch for comments, but there has been no response. Efforts to contact Sirið Stenberg, another candidate for the leadership role, have also been unsuccessful as she is currently attending a Nordic Ministerial meeting in Reykjavík.
Hervør Pálsdóttir is set to become the deputy chair of Tjóðveldi, which will hold its party meeting in the capital, Tórshavn, on Saturday.
