One year since devastating storm surge hits Aabenraa in Denmark
Today marks the one-year anniversary of one of the worst storm surges in Danish history, which caused significant damage to properties across the region. This event was classified as a once-in-a-century occurrence. The highest water level was recorded in Aabenraa, peaking at 2.16 meters above normal water levels. Water levels exceeded two meters in several areas, including Haderslev, Sønderborg, Fynshav, Hesnæs, Faaborg, and Assens. The strongest average wind was recorded at Kegnæs Lighthouse on South Als, where the average wind speed reached 28.3 meters per second.
