Cloostårnet in Frederikshavn attracts over 4,000 visitors this autumn
Visitors to the Cloostårnet in Frederikshavn can experience the gradual shift into autumn from its observation deck, soaring 160 meters above sea level. The tower offers panoramic views of the surrounding forests, adorned in hues of green and yellow, as they stretch towards the sea, the city, and Grenen.
This year, over 4,000 paying guests have visited the tower, largely thanks to Birthe Lund Nielsen, a flexjob employee at its ticket office, who expressed gratitude for the continuation of the arrangement by local authorities. Having previously worked in various sectors, including retail and hospitality, she takes pride in her job at such a significant landmark.
Birthe, along with four other flexible workers, has helped keep the tower open for 50 hours a week during the summer. Reflecting on her role, she stated, “I do not just want to stay at home. It means a lot to contribute to society.” Her supervisor, Anders Andersen, believes the initiative benefits employees, enhances tourist services, and generates revenue, with ticket sales reaching almost 110,000 kroner this year for tower maintenance.
Despite her determination, Birthe has faced challenges in finding other flexjob opportunities due to limited responses to her job applications. She remains hopeful about securing her position at Cloostårnet for the upcoming year.
Anders Andersen, leading the project and integration department at Frederikshavn’s job center, sees potential for flexjob employees in tourism and suggests more businesses could benefit from their contributions. He emphasizes the need for collaboration between municipalities and the tourism sector to establish favorable working conditions. Frederikshavn Municipality has created 288 flexjobs this year, illustrating a commitment to providing meaningful employment opportunities.
