Iceland forms caretaker government ahead of November elections

Iceland’s Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson has announced the formation of a caretaker government consisting of the Progressive Party and the Independence Party, following the approval of his request to dissolve Parliament by President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson. The elections are scheduled for November 30, prompting the dissolution of the Althing (Iceland’s parliament) next Thursday.

As part of this transition, all ministers from the Left-Green Movement will resign from their positions and return to serve as regular members of Parliament, effective immediately.
