The necessity for significant change and the exploration of new tools is increasingly evident, one party member commented. Previously, the party had been highly critical of a legislative proposal formally introduced by the Tidö parties last month. However, a turnaround was decided during a meeting on Tuesday afternoon. According to Teresa Carvalho, this change is due to the fact that the objections raised by the party and other critics have been addressed.

Earlier this spring, a previous version of the proposal was rejected by the Council on Legislation, which cited potential risks to legal security. Since then, the government has made several amendments, including a stipulation in the law that other measures to protect witnesses must be either inadequate or significantly more difficult to implement.

Carvalho expressed readiness to pursue necessary actions, provided they are legally secure and effective. She stated that the adjustments made to the proposal now weigh the reasons for approval more heavily than those against it. In connection with the parliamentary vote on this proposal, the party will also introduce a follow-up motion. This will not only propose a stronger witness protection program but also call for an evaluation of the law concerning anonymous witnesses after a certain period.
