Mýflug awarded government contract for scheduled flights to Vestmannaeyjar from Reykjavík

Mýflug has been awarded a government contract to provide scheduled flights to Vestmannaeyjar from December through February for the next three years. This decision follows an absence of scheduled flights since March, when the contract with the airline Erni expired.

The State Road Administration issued a tender for the flights in June, which resulted in only one bid. Mýflug will operate flights four times a week from Reykjavík to Vestmannaeyjar. The resumed service aims to enhance connectivity to the islands, which had been left without regular flights following the conclusion of the previous contract.

Overall, the return of scheduled flights is anticipated to benefit residents and tourists alike, re-establishing vital links to the islands.
