Climate change has become an increasingly pressing issue in recent years, prompting many Danes to adopt measures to reduce their carbon footprints. Politicians have mandated waste sorting, and an increasing number of people are choosing electric vehicles. Despite this, travel habits remain largely unchanged. This autumn holiday, Copenhagen Airport anticipates welcoming 100,000 more passengers compared to last year, even amid widespread discussions about the need to fly less due to CO2 emissions associated with air travel.

For Benny and Sus Emmery, flying to Barcelona with their children and grandchildren is a matter of convenience, despite having considered driving. They acknowledge a shift towards more environmentally friendly choices but have opted to fly this time, particularly to accommodate their three-month-old grandchild. Benny notes a previous preference for distant destinations like Cuba and the USA, which they are currently avoiding.

Anne-Mette Tørning, flying to Cremona, Italy, had not contemplated taking the train due to the organized nature of her travel. Although she’s worried about climate impact, she chose to fly, excited about the trip after several years of not traveling.

Emma Frølich, traveling to Georgia with her mother, reflects on her train travels over the past years but cites time constraints for not choosing rail this time. She emphasizes her everyday efforts to support the environment, such as eating vegetarian and using public transport.

Lars and Noah Borgmann’s upcoming trip to Egypt also influenced their decision to fly, despite Noah admitting to little concern for the climate implications. Lars is more conscious of his environmental impact and practices sustainable building with recycled materials, yet believes that many of their travel destinations necessitate flying.
