Powerful earthquake strikes Bárðarbunga caldera in Iceland

A powerful earthquake occurred in the Bárðarbunga caldera yesterday evening, registering a magnitude of 5.0, stronger than initial estimates suggested. The earthquake was detected shortly before 6 PM local time. Initially, it was believed to have a magnitude of 4.5, but further analysis by experts at the Icelandic Meteorological Office confirmed the increased intensity.

This marks the strongest quake in the area since September 3rd, when a similar magnitude earthquake was recorded. Additionally, two smaller tremors measuring 3.7 and 3.9 were detected the day before. Natural hazard specialists continue to monitor the situation closely, as Bárðarbunga remains an area of interest for seismic activity.
