Three Polish men have been sentenced to prison in Oulu for a brutal assault that occurred last June in Kaukovainio. The victim, an Oulu resident, was randomly selected by the attackers in the courtyard of an apartment building on Nuolihaukantie. According to the Oulu District Court’s ruling on Friday, 28-year-old Sebastian Dziewanowski attacked the victim with a knife, while the other two defendants participated in the beating through punches and kicks, resulting in severe injuries to the victim.
Dziewanowski received a sentence of four years and three months for attempted manslaughter, in addition to another count of assault against another individual present at the scene. Ptak Krysztof, born in 1987, and Gabriel Rapusta, born in 1996, were both sentenced to two and a half years for aggravated assault. The court’s decision was based on testimonies from the involved parties and surveillance camera footage that documented the entire incident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the violent behavior of the three men came as a surprise, while the defendants argued in court that their actions were prompted by harassment or threats from others present. The court dismissed these claims, noting that the individuals involved did not share a common language, making such communication theoretically impossible. The footage revealed that the aggressive behavior and violence originated solely from the defendants towards both the victim and other parties involved.
Dziewanowski was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident, and the other two men acted in concert. In addition to their prison sentences, the men are required to compensate the victim for pain and suffering amounting to over €10,000. The ruling is not yet final, as it can be appealed in a higher court.
