Copenhagen police investigate connections between explosions in Hellerup and shooting at Israeli embassy in Stockholm
Copenhagen police are investigating potential connections between a shooting incident at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm and two explosions that occurred overnight in Hellerup. The police confirmed this in a written statement.
Two hand grenades detonated near the Israeli embassy, although it has not been confirmed whether the embassy was the intended target. Lead Police Inspector Poul Kjeldsen stated, “We are still investigating the two explosions near the Israeli embassy in Hellerup, and in that effort, we are also examining whether there could be a link to the shooting incident at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm.”
Earlier, the Swedish prosecution service confirmed a relationship between the two cases. Prosecutor Cecilia Holmbom indicated that while there is a connection, details regarding its nature cannot be disclosed at this time.
Copenhagen police have refrained from providing further details due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, which is currently being conducted behind closed doors. Kjeldsen added, “We have a close collaboration with Swedish law enforcement, but since our case is proceeding behind closed doors, we cannot comment further on the investigation.”
DR Nyheder also reached out to the Police Intelligence Service (PET), which declined to confirm any connections, stating, “We are of course interested in the same issues and connections. However, since the case is under closed proceedings, we cannot provide further details at this time.”
