Man fined for endangering traffic safety after collision with fishing inspector’s boat in Ikaalinen
A man who collided with a fishing inspector’s boat in Ikaalinen has been fined 14 daily penalties for endangering traffic safety. The incident occurred on August 2 at Lake Kyrösjärvi, where a fishing inspector from the Pirkanmaa Fisheries Centre and a local operator were checking the licenses for crayfish traps. The boater sped towards the inspection vessel and crashed into its side.
Initially, investigators considered whether the incident could be classified as an assault against a public official. However, Panu Rautio, a crime commissioner with the Central Finland Police, stated that they quickly determined the boater did not recognize the fishing inspectors as officials. The individual believed that the inspectors were raiding his crayfish traps.
The fishing inspector was clearly identified, wearing an inspector’s ID and a cap marked with the Pirkanmaa Fisheries Centre. The police noted that the boater failed to exercise the caution required while navigating his vessel, resulting in the collision with the inspectors’ boat. The vessel sustained minor damage due to the crash.
As a result of the incident, the Pirkanmaa Fisheries Centre sought €100 in compensation for the damages, which the boater has since paid. The investigation into the matter has now been concluded.
