Lulu Ranne, the Finnish Minister of Transport, Communications, and the Interior from the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), has expressed the necessity of investigating the potential dissolution of the environmental movement Elokapina. This information was reported by Uutissuomalainen.

Ranne noted that there have been “quite a few red flags” surrounding the organization, which prompts the need for a thorough examination of its activities. “Dissolution is possible under the Associations Act if the organization continuously violates the law and public order,” Ranne stated.

She added that both the prosecution and the Police Authority have the right to take legal action, as do members of the organization. Ranne emphasized that authorities will assess whether the conditions for dissolution, as outlined by the Associations Act, are met. “Of course, I won’t dictate to the competent authorities,” she remarked.

A citizens’ initiative calling for Elokapina’s dissolution gathered the required 50,000 signatures for parliamentary consideration last week. The Police Authority indicated to Uutissuomalainen that if it decides to take legal action against any association, further comments will only be made after the case is submitted to the district court and becomes public.

Ranne pointed out that organizations in Finland have rarely been dissolved, and historically, this has only occurred in cases involving extremely serious forms of organized crime.
