The name “Andrei Corbu” is tattooed across a woman’s back, adorned with pink hearts. This name belongs to a 37-year-old Romanian man who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison earlier this year for trafficking four women into prostitution in Denmark.

Corbu opened doors in ordinary homes and apartments around Copenhagen to serve Danish clients looking to buy sex from Romanian women. The woman bearing his tattoo is one of those victims. He faced allegations of coercing several women to tattoo his name on their backs, but this charge was dropped before trial.

Corbu described his illegal business operations on the crime show “Kriminelt,” revealing he arrived in Denmark in January 2022 after knowing two Romanian women working as prostitutes. He perceived it as a lucrative opportunity due to many clients willing to pay well and fewer complications compared to Romania.

Human trafficking remains a severe crime, with traffickers making significant profits, only surpassed by arms and drug trafficking. Many victims are forced to work in Danish brothels, often moved across borders as traffickers exploit them for profit.

Corbu had about six addresses in Denmark for prostitution and another for himself and the women to stay safe if they faced difficulties. He reported working with around 1,000 women during his operations, which included a wide variety of clients, from drug addicts to professionals.

Corbu admitted to using the “loverboy” method, a technique where traffickers manipulate women into believing they are in a romantic relationship, only to exploit them. He was recently released from prison and is now in Romania, unfazed by his permanent exclusion from Denmark, as he intends to earn money in other countries.
