Power outages have been reported across a wide area from the Westfjords to Húsavík due to a malfunction at Norðurál. This incident has overloaded the electrical distribution network operated by Landsnet, leading to significant disruptions.

Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir, a spokesperson for Landsnet, explained that the situation created a substantial strain on the system. Efforts are currently underway to restore power. “We have now assessed the situation and have started to rebuild the system,” she stated, expressing optimism that electricity would be restored in most areas shortly.

As of now, power is gradually being restored in some locations, and authorities hope it will be fully back online across the affected regions soon. Additionally, reports have emerged of power outages extending to East Iceland, indicating that the issue is more widespread than initially thought.

Landsnet is working to manage the situation and ensure that power is restored as quickly as possible, prioritizing safety and stability across the grid.
