The trial regarding a street robbery incident in Kuopio continues Wednesday at the North Savo District Court. According to the prosecutor, a 16-year-old boy attacked a 14-year-old he did not know at the time. The older boy reportedly headbutted the younger boy in the face. The incident occurred in August of last year at the victim’s school in Kuopio. Following the assault, the 16-year-old threatened the younger boy with a knife and also claimed he could have a “street gang beat and stab” him. These gang-related threats were relayed to the victim’s acquaintances, who were instructed to pass the message along.
The accused admits to the assault as a minor as well as making illegal threats. The prosecutor characterized the violence as dangerous, primarily because it targeted the head. The prosecutor further stated that the actions were interconnected and requested they be addressed collectively in court. A base sentence is anticipated for a serious assault discussed during Monday’s proceedings, and the prosecutor calls for a combined custodial sentence for the accused along with other pending cases.
Additionally, two robberies committed by the same individual are being examined. In the first incident in August 2023, the 16-year-old allegedly attacked a 13-year-old on the street, using force to shove him against a wall and take his bag and sunglasses, before fleeing the scene. The victim later retrieved his belongings through the assistance of another person.
In a second encounter approximately a month later, the 16-year-old again assaulted the 13-year-old in front of a cinema, violently taking a bag and belt. This property was also returned afterward. The accused denies both robbery charges but admits to minor assault and theft, claiming he voluntarily returned the stolen items through an intermediary. The case is ongoing.
