In the lead-up to the municipal elections on November 12, there is currently only one list registered in Eysturkommuna. The Mayor, Per Martin Gregersen, has extended a welcome to additional lists.
Interest in forming lists appears to have diminished, raising concerns about voter representation.
Notably, half of the city council members in Eysturkommuna will be replaced following the elections. Marjun Andreasardóttir, Rúni Justinussen, Marita Klein Joensen, all of whom were elected to the council in 2020, along with Hjalti Dalheim, who has served three terms, have announced they will not seek re-election.
This upcoming election thus marks a significant turnover in local governance, as new candidates will seek to fill the vacancies left by the departing council members.
