People should report anything suspicious near power infrastructure, the director of electricity company Nord Energi Net told DR, warning that the grid could be a target in a crisis.
“Let us know that you have seen something, because we can quickly contact the emergency services. Your eyes are very valuable,” said Magnus Hansen.
Nord Energi Net owns and operates the electricity grid across large parts of Vendsyssel and supplies power to homes and businesses. Hansen said the company has strengthened its emergency plans in recent years as threat assessments have changed.
The company has already received a report from a member of the public about a German car that had been parked for a long time near a transformer station supplying a small airport. Nord Energi Net sent staff to check, but the car had left by the time they arrived. The company found no suspicious circumstances involving the vehicle.
Hansen encouraged people to report similar concerns, saying cooperation and mutual trust are an important part of the country’s preparedness.
The company has also strengthened its readiness since two Ukrainian men were arrested and suspected of espionage at defence company MyDefense. Hansen said Nord Energi Net is taking measures around companies that are critical to society and vulnerable in relation to defence, but did not provide details.
